Pantanal is a tropical wetland isolated in southwestern Brazil. It is the largest wetland in the world, and in the rainy season the river deltas throughout the region flood dramatically, which has spared it from much human development. Tropical birds, pumas, jaguars, anteaters, monkeys, and capybaras flourish in the well-watered area.
Cuiabá, the capital of the Mato Grosso state, is the linchpin for Pantanal tours. Visitors can take a bus or flight to this city before embarking on forays into the jungle. From a Pantanal lodge, visitors can go on wildlife hikes, sip piranha soup, go for an off-road safari ride, or take a relaxing sunrise canoe journey through the wetlands. This is a place unlike any other in the world.
The following itinerary is offered for a stay at the Pousada do Rio Mutum. Should you wish to stay at one of our other recommended lodge, activities are subject to change. Ask your travel advisor for details.
