Deep in the heart of the northern Brazilian Amazon rainforest, on the banks of the mighty Amazon River, is the city of Manaus. This city is remote, utterly surrounded by lush forests full of wildlife. But it is also a bustling cosmopolitan center of 1.8 million people and the capital of the extensive Amazonas region.
Neighboring the city is the National Park of Jaú, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the largest national parks in Latin America, covering 5,614,234 acres. Also nearby are several native tribes, beautiful waterfalls, and the impressive “Meeting of the Waters,” the confluence of the Rio Negro, the Rio Solimos, and the Rio Amazonas.
Because itineraries vary depending on lodge and activity selection, the following itinerary is a sample one. Be sure to contact your travel advisor for more detailed information.

Day 1 : Arrival to Manaus

- Upon arrival to the Amazon in Manaus, a Brazil For Less representative will meet you and take you to your selected jungle lodge.
- At the lodge, you’ll have time to settle in and rest before beginning your first jungle activities. Depending on your lodge selection, activities will vary, but may include visiting a monkey rehabilitation center or taking a canoe trip to a nearby Amazonian village.
- You’ll return to the lodge for a delightful dinner and night of relaxation. You may have the option for night excursions, such as looking for caiman and other exotic wildlife.
Day 2 : Jungle Activities

- After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll begin your second day of Amazon exploration. Though itineraries will vary, you may begin the day on a nature hike with an expert guide. During the hike you’ll learn all about the secrets of the rainforest and its inhabitants.
- After lunch, you may take a piranha fishing trip along one of the many tributaries of the Amazon River.
- Return to the lodge for dinner and a quiet, relaxing evening set to the sounds of the jungle.
Day 3 : Jungle Activities

- Today you’ll keep exploring the rainforest and its incredible wonders. You may visit some natural pools along the riverbank, where you’ll be able to take a swim in the warm waters. Or, you might be able to visit a local fishing community to learn how people survive in the imposing Amazon.
- After lunch and some time to relax, you’ll once again head for the jungle to explore its fascinating flora and fauna with your guide.
- Return to the lodge for your last dinner and evening in the Amazon.
Day 4 : Departure from Manaus

- Rise early to make the most of your last day in the Amazon. You’ll likely enjoy an early morning boat tour, and may travel to the Meeting of the Waters, one of nature’s greatest mysteries. This is where the black waters of the Rio Negro meet the muddy brown ones of Rio Solimoes and float side by side without mixing for miles. The distinction between both rivers is very clear from their different colors, making for a riveting sight.
- After lunch, you’ll meet your transfer to the airport for your journey home or on to your next destination. Check out our exciting Brazil travel destinations for additional vacation ideas.
